EXP MakerspaceBrand design for a new makerspace community.

Overview

The EXP Makerspace at Northeastern University is a vibrant hub for innovation and hands-on creativity. Designed as the university’s first creative community center, the EXP Makerspace brings together students, faculty, and staff to explore new ideas, experiment freely, and collaborate across disciplines. The resulting identity celebrates curiosity, creativity, and the joy of making.

I served as the sole designer for this project, defining the creative strategy informed by student experiences and the university’s lacking creative offerings. Pitching to university stakeholders, I developed a cohesive visual system that reflects the Makerspace’s mission. From logo and color development to environmental and digital design, every element was created to express the contagious energy, inclusivity, and curiosity that define the ideal Makerspace experience.

I created a dynamic brand guidelines website designed to give future generations of EXP Makerspace students the tools to shape and evolve the brand themselves. The site provides everything from essential colors, typography, imagery, and visual assets to brand positioning and creative direction, giving students a strong foundation to build from while leaving room for the identity to grow with each new cohort. By making the brand itself an accessible creative resource, the guidelines embody the same philosophy as the EXP Makerspace: give people the tools they need to experiment, make, and create something of their own.
